The Most Common Lawn Weeds in Coppell
The Most Common Lawn Weeds in Coppell
Crabgrass
Low-growing annual that sprouts in spring and dies in fall, leaving bare spots. Best defense: pre-emergent in February. Once established, spot-treat with a selective herbicide.
Dallisgrass
Looks like a clumpy version of crabgrass but is a perennial that comes back every year. Hardest weed in Coppell. Glyphosate kills it but also kills surrounding turf. Patience and persistence are required.
Nutsedge
Bright green, faster-growing than your lawn, with a triangular stem. Pulling makes it worse. Use a sedge-specific herbicide like Sedgehammer.
Dandelions and clover
The easy ones. A broadleaf herbicide (2,4-D or similar) takes them out without hurting Bermuda or Zoysia.
Prevention
A thick, healthy lawn crowds out weeds before they start. Aerate, fertilize, and mow at the right height (3 inches for Bermuda). Most weed problems are downstream of weak turf.
