Spring Lawn Prep in Coppell: A Week-by-Week Guide
Spring Lawn Prep in Coppell
Five weeks of focused work in March and early April set the tone for the entire growing season in North Texas. Here is the schedule we follow on every NLS lawn.
Week 1 โ Cleanup and assessment
Clear winter debris. Walk the lawn looking for dead patches, weed pressure, and areas of compaction. Note anything that needs reseeding.
Week 2 โ Pre-emergent application
This is the single most important treatment of the year. A pre-emergent applied in early March stops crabgrass and other annual weeds before they germinate.
Week 3 โ First mow
Lower the deck slightly for the first mow of the season to clean up dormant tips. Then return to standard 3-3.5" cutting height.
Week 4 โ Edge and define
Clean edges along driveways, walkways, and beds. This single step does more for curb appeal than anything else.
Week 5 โ First fertilization
Light spring feeding to wake up the turf. Avoid heavy nitrogen until the lawn is actively growing.
